Out with the Old, In with the New

In 1982 we moved from Orangeville, back home to Newton. We lived in Grandma Gwennie Salisbury's home since she had just passed away the month before. The family cleaned out most of her stuff, but I inherited a few things no one wanted, like this scrub brush. I've used it for 28 years cleaning my bathroom sinks and vanities. Just this past year, the wood started to crack and the bristles started falling out. No telling how long Grandma had this brush before I got it. It could be 40 to 50 years old.

Anyway, I was thrilled one day as I was watching a Harry Potter movie. In the scene where Harry goes to Ron's house for the first time, there's a frying pan magically being cleaned in the sink with a scrub brush. It's exactly the same as mine!!! (There used to be a metal hook on the end of the handle). I'm probably the only person in the world who took note of the scrub brush instead of the fact that the frying pan was floating in the air :).

It's with deep feelings and regret that I finally retire the old scrub brush and exchange it for this sleek, new model.
Good bye old friend. Not only have you served me well, you've had a moment of fame. I'll miss you :).

Getting Ready for Christmas

Josh came over to help Grandpa put up the tree. He read the instruction paper to tell us which color of branches went next.

I'm glad someone likes to wrap and it isn't me!

Halloween

Floyd dressed as the Pillsbury doughboy again this year. It was a crazy day at Lee's.

Melece handed out doughnut coupons during the trick or treating. She wore great grandma's high top boots to complete her witch costume.

Monster Concert

We went to Ben and Carrie's Monster Concert last weekend. It was amazing! (See their Blog). You can't believe all the equipment brought in and crews setting up all day.
The parent volunteer decoration committe did a great job.
The camera and light crew in the back of the gym.
The cast, teachers, and performers pause for a picture. What a great evening of entertainment!

French Apple Pie

I had this crazy notion to make apple pie today. The kind with the oatmeal crumb topping. I haven't made this recipe in over 10 years. I guess I have to make it once every 10 years to remember why I only make it once every 10 years :) It took me 2 1/2 hours from start to clean up. The problem was the home grown apples from the yard were pretty small and by the time I peeled and cored them, there wasn't much apple left. It took me an hour to peel enough apples for these 2 pies. Well, the good part was eating a piece of warm apple pie and the house smelled like apples and cinnamon most of the day :)

The Grand Kids

It doesn't happen very often that all 9 of the grand kids are in the same place at the same time. I just had to have a picture of all of them together! But, like most pictures of kids, this one will be outdated in about a month :).

Landen's Wedding

I'm a little behind on blogging the events of the past month, so I'll try to catch up. It was so fun to have the wedding reception at the house. It turned out to be an unusually cold day in September, so we made the decision to have it indoors. It worked out great and everyone had a good time. I love the blue and yellow decorations!
